The ARC Training Centre for Radiation Innovation (RadInnovate) is a nationally funded, five-year research and training initiative. The Centre brings together three leading Australian universities and twelve forward-thinking industry partners to deliver cutting-edge research and foster the next generation of research leaders in radiation technology and nuclear science.

Australian industries have an acute need for a future-ready workforce equipped with sophisticated radiation and nuclear skills. Current projections indicate that demand for such specialists will soon outpace supply, with more than 50% of the current nuclear energy workforce retiring by 2040. Australia’s future workforce capability will, therefore, need to deliver innovative applications of radiation and nuclear technologies through transdisciplinary knowledge: scientists who are trained in regulatory and social responsiveness and regulatory specialists who understand the challenges involved, each with the tools to communicate effectively publicly in ways that meet the needs of Australia’s diverse communities.

We are seeking motivated, creative and collaborative PhD and Masters (by Research) candidates who are passionate about addressing national challenges in quantum technology, health, mining, resources, defence and regulation.

Industry placements to kickstart your career

Kickstart your career with a minimum one-year placement in your industry partner, plus the opportunity to work in government and other industries - your potential employers!

RadInnovate's research-training framework:

Enrich– focussed on the student and will build foundational subject-matter expertise, research skills and methods, as well as the confidence to go into industry and deliver sector transformation. Initially based at the home institution, each student will undertake a rotation with partner universities to provide exposure to new research environments and broaden their skills and networks. All Centre students will have the opportunity to attend relevant cross-disciplinary courses to build subject matter expertise.

Transform– students will then spend at least 12 months embedded in aligned industry partner organisation. This phase will incubate students’ research activities, with regular contact with their supervisory panel.

Deliver– the final phase will be completed at the home institution, where students will consolidate and finalise their research projects, meet university examination requirements, submit pre-agreed industry deliverables, and, importantly, secure future employment.
